What was filmed

Find That Location reports River Cam filming for Ludwig in early January 2024 and names The Backs among the wider Cambridge locations. It also reports a return to the Silver Street and Mill Pond area for Series 2. These reports support a broad riverside location, not a claim that this photograph, bridge view or a particular path is a frame-matched shot.

Plan a visit

Walk, enter a college or take a punt?

These are three different visits. Cambridge City Council gives The Backs public green-space address as Queen’s Road, Cambridge CB3 9AH. Use that public area as the starting point rather than assuming access through a college gate. The outdoor council-managed area has no visitor ticket listed; individual colleges and river operators set their own hours and charges.

  • College land: Trinity College says its Backs grounds are normally open 9am–5pm but may close for events. Its courts are not generally open. Trinity forbids bicycles, dogs, grass walking, picnics and barbecues on its grounds. Check the college’s current notice before using its gate; these rules do not describe every council path or other college.
  • On the river: The council lists six licensed punting stations, including Quayside and the Mill Pond on Silver Street. Buy from a licensed operator at its station and check current tickets, boarding arrangements and accessibility directly. A punt ticket is not a college entry ticket.
  • Travel and parking: Cambridge station is just over a mile from the city centre, with onward buses. The council travel guide lists five Park & Ride sites and city car parks; use its current parking map rather than treating college roads or gates as visitor parking.
  • Access: The council’s Backs listing does not specify gradients, surfaces or step-free conditions for every path. Trinity’s access guide says its back gate has level access from Queen’s Road, but that is college-specific. Ask the relevant operator or venue about a particular route, mobility aid or punt before travelling.
  • Facilities: Do not assume toilets, food or seating at every riverside viewpoint. The council toilet list includes Silver Street facilities, with a street-level accessible toilet and baby-changing; check its live opening times and charge. The Silver Street guide gives the current details.

Visitor information checked 19 September 2026. Public-space conditions, college openings, punt prices and facilities can change; use the linked operators and council pages on the day of travel.
