Who is DCC Clint Radley?
Deputy Chief Constable Clint Radley is a senior Cambridge police figure played by Michael Wildman. He appears in Series 2 Episodes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. His rank places him above the detectives handling the weekly investigations, giving him a different kind of authority from John’s ability to solve a puzzle.
Radley belongs to the police world that James worked in and that John now enters as a consultant. Carter’s team conducts the immediate enquiries, but the organisation around it matters to the continuing search. John needs to understand what happened to his brother while working within limits imposed by people further up the hierarchy.
His five appearances keep that senior level of the force in view through much of the second series. The early episodes build the new working arrangement at the station and develop Lucy’s newspaper enquiries. Radley returns in the finale, when the weekly case and the investigation surrounding James become closely connected. His position gives those events an institutional setting as well as a personal one.

TV Guide’s ending explainer describes Radley as under Joanne Kemper’s influence. His connection with the MP brings the senior police hierarchy into the investigation of her power in Cambridge. John and Lucy are trying to follow evidence across a series of deaths, while people with influence can affect the conditions in which that work happens.
The same account identifies the Hedge Assembly as a private members’ club behind Kemper. The network around her helps explain why the longer case cannot be reduced to one suspect at one crime scene. The Taylors need to understand the relationships surrounding the deaths as well as the physical circumstances of each event.
The finale exposes Ziegler’s attempt to frame Kemper. John proves that the chief constable staged his own suicide with a gun stolen from her. Kemper walks free, leaving the group to continue seeking evidence concerning the earlier victims. A clear reconstruction of Ziegler’s death has removed the charge that appeared to offer an immediate breakthrough.
John, Lucy, Henry, Carter, Ethan, Caitlin and Gareth then commit to pursuing the larger case from the newspaper. Radley’s fate is unresolved going into Series 3. The second-series ending does not give him a completed reckoning, and his connection with Kemper remains part of the story’s unfinished business.
That unresolved position makes Radley important to the shape of the ending. John can explain how a particular scene was arranged, while the people and relationships around the broader investigation still pose a problem. The alliance has grown, but the senior figures associated with Kemper have not all received a final outcome. Radley keeps that pressure within the police institution itself.

Relationships
Kemper is the key figure to follow alongside Radley. Her public office and his senior police position place them in two influential parts of Cambridge’s life. Their connection draws the missing-James investigation beyond the Taylors’ home and the individual cases Carter’s team is asked to solve. It gives John and Lucy a larger set of relationships to understand.
Ziegler is another senior figure in that police setting. Carter and John work closer to the immediate investigations, while Lucy approaches the wider story through reporting. The different positions create an uneven contest: the people seeking answers are not the people with the greatest authority. Radley’s role helps give that imbalance a face within the station’s hierarchy.

About Michael Wildman
Michael Wildman plays the deputy chief constable whose office gives his appearances weight. Radley does not need to take over John’s reconstruction to affect the investigation around it. The presence of a senior officer brings another pressure into scenes otherwise built around the detectives’ practical work and the consultant’s explanation.
Wildman’s character also widens the second-series ensemble upwards through the chain of command. Carter and the constables give John colleagues to work alongside; Radley represents a level of the institution beyond that immediate partnership. His place in the cast is useful to viewers following the difference between solving the latest case and getting closer to the people connected with James’s disappearance.
