History and background

The place before the programme

North Mymms Park is a late-sixteenth-century country house, built for Henry or Sir Ralph Coningsby around 1600, probably before 1596. Historic England’s statutory entry records a Grade I listing and later work in 1846–47 and 1893–94. Its red-brick exterior, courtyard and later loggia tell a longer architectural story than the television appearance alone. The estate now operates for private events and filming, without general public opening.

The venue homepage describes the house as Grade I*, while Historic England’s statutory listing records Grade I. This guide uses the statutory designation and flags the discrepancy rather than silently merging them.

How it appears on screen

Location reporting identifies North Mymms Park as the wedding and ceilidh setting in Series 2 Episode 2. Its great-house rooms and controlled approaches support a mystery built around a crowded celebration and apparently abundant witnesses.

Responsible access

Before visiting

North Mymms Park is a private, exclusive-use event and filming venue, not a drop-in historic house. The advertised appointment-only viewings are for prospective venue clients, not public sightseeing tours. Do not enter the estate without a confirmed invitation, booking or officially announced public event.

  • Address: North Mymms Park, Hertfordshire AL9 7TR. Follow the entrance instructions supplied with your booking; the venue advises event drivers to use the St Mary’s Church Road entrance.
  • Rail: The venue’s FAQ lists Welham Green as the nearest station, about 1.5 miles away; Potters Bar and Hatfield are about four and 3.5 miles respectively. Its contact page describes Hatfield as about a ten-minute drive. Confirm the last leg and approved arrival point with your host; a walkable public route into the private estate has not been verified.
  • Parking: Event hire includes complimentary parking for up to 200 cars. Only booked Stables guests may leave vehicles overnight; there are no venue EV chargers advertised. None of this grants parking or sightseeing access without a booking.
  • Accessibility: The venue reports ramps, a stairlift chair and one accessible guest bedroom for booked overnight events. Assistance dogs are permitted. Accessible toilets and the suitability of any particular room or route are not detailed in the FAQ; discuss your needs with the venue before booking.
  • Price and duration: No public tour price or visit duration is advertised. Event and viewing arrangements are supplied by the venue.
