History and background

The place before the programme

Moor Park has held a succession of major houses. The surviving Palladian mansion took shape in the 1720s, incorporating an earlier house associated with the Duke and Duchess of Monmouth. After use as a country house, military base and country club, it became the clubhouse of Moor Park Golf Club and is protected at Grade I.

How it appears on screen

Two published location guides identify the mansion as the Bryce Manor stand-in in Series 1 Episode 2. This remains a reported match, not production-confirmed; which shots used the exterior, and whether any interiors were filmed here, require a shot-by-shot check. The country-house setting functions as a closed social and physical system for the case, but that narrative observation does not establish filming boundaries.

Plan a lawful visit

Before visiting

The mansion is the clubhouse of a members-only golf club, not an open-access attraction. The Arts Society Moor Park runs limited public heritage tours on behalf of the Moor Park Heritage Foundation. Tours must be booked in advance; do not enter the estate simply to look around.

  • Availability: All advertised 2026 public tours are sold out, including 24 September. Check the organiser for future dates or cancellations.
  • Tour: About one hour, with tea or coffee and biscuits before the tour. Public tours are limited to 15 people each. The published 2026 price was £15 per person; confirm the price when booking a future date.
  • Arrival: The organiser lists two tour starts on each public date, at 10:00 and 11:00, with registration from 09:30 and 10:30 respectively. Use your booking confirmation for the applicable time.
  • Private groups: The organiser says large-group tours are occasionally possible and asks group organisers to arrange them directly with Moor Park Golf Club. These are not general walk-in visits.
  • Where: Moor Park Mansion, Moor Park Golf Club, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire WD3 1QN. The club's driving directions advise WD3 1QL for satellite navigation to the gatehouse.
  • By rail and on foot: Moor Park Underground station is served by the Metropolitan line. The tour organiser describes the walk to the mansion as about one mile from Moor Park or one and a half miles from Rickmansworth, and says both approaches are quite hilly. These are organiser estimates, not an independently surveyed step-free route; ask about the exact booked-tour entrance if mobility is a concern.
  • Driving and parking: The club's directions lead to the estate gatehouse using WD3 1QL for satellite navigation, then along the driveway to the mansion. The tour organiser says there is ample free on-site parking for mansion events and tours. Confirm the correct parking area and meeting point in your booking instructions before setting out.
  • Accessibility and facilities: The published tour information does not confirm step-free access, accessible toilets, seating or the exact room route. Ask the public-tour team about your requirements before booking. Transport for London lists toilets at Moor Park station, but those are not mansion facilities.
