Liberty Tea Rooms and the Series 3 shoot

BBC News reported on 5 October 2026 that volunteer-run Liberty Tea Rooms and Community Hub was used for Ludwig Series 3. The venue closed from 15 September to 7 October for the production. Its frontage was dressed as a bank, returning the building to a role it had before becoming a community venue.

The shoot took place inside and outside over several weeks, and a rain machine was used for one scene. The BBC report gives fans a real venue to find in Hemel Hempstead. The charity’s own contact page gives its address as 12 Bank Court, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1BS.

What the charity does

Liberty’s official website describes a welcoming community rooted in its Christian faith, with support for social, emotional, financial and spiritual wellbeing. Its work includes helping people facing debt, providing pay-it-forward meals and supplying food-bank parcels to individuals and families. Volunteers help keep the tea rooms and community hub running.

That makes a visit more than a chance to see a filming building. You are calling at a place that brings people together and supports residents who need help. Stop for something to eat or drink if the venue is open, give the volunteers time to look after their customers, and enjoy the tea rooms as part of an ordinary day in the town.

How to visit and support Liberty

The official contact page lists Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 4pm, as the usual opening hours. Check directly before travelling, especially after the filming closure. The same page has a contact form and the email address hello@libertytearooms.co.uk if you have a question about visiting or supporting the hub.

The October appeal is urgent: the charity says it needs £25,000 by the end of October 2026 to avoid permanent closure. Charity Times reports the fundraising target. To donate, use the Donate button on Liberty’s official website and follow the charity’s own instructions. You can support the appeal from home as well as by visiting.

If you would like to help regularly, ask the charity about its current volunteering or support opportunities. A visit does not come with access to filming areas or a meeting with the cast. The useful contribution is simple: be a considerate customer, support the appeal if you can, and let the community venue carry on with its work.

Getting to Hemel Hempstead

For a rail journey from London, use National Rail’s London Euston to Hemel Hempstead journey information. The station page gives the station address on London Road and provides onward bus and taxi information. Plan the final part of the journey to Bank Court as well as the train, and check return services before your visit.

Use Liberty’s postcode, HP1 1BS, for walking directions or a local journey planner. If you are driving, choose public town-centre parking and check its current terms. Allow time for the tea-room stop rather than treating it as a quick photograph on the way elsewhere.

Other things to see in Hemel Hempstead

Combine the visit with a walk through the town. Visit Herts recommends the Jellicoe Water Gardens for a stroll beside the River Gade and the ornamental gardens. It is a good choice if you want an outdoor stop around your tea-room visit.

For a longer walk, ParksHerts’ Gadebridge Park guide describes the park on the northern side of Hemel Hempstead and its place in the Old Town Heritage Trail. The Old Town gives the afternoon a different setting from the modern town centre.

If you want to finish with a performance or film, Visit Herts also highlights the Old Town Hall for theatre, comedy and cinema. Check its programme before planning an evening around it. Choose one or two of these stops to suit the time you have, with Liberty as the welcoming break in the middle of the day.
