For a closer historical view, see the 2007 photograph of the Pentland Lakeside entrance on Wikimedia Commons. The Finchley Society’s building photo and owner’s consultation images offer other views. Production record

The Ludwig workplace

TV Guide’s Series 2 location report identifies the former Pentland site off Squires Lane as the fictional East Anglia Advertiser workplace connected with Gareth Fisher. The report describes the distinctive blue building but does not allocate a numbered episode. The Casebook has not confirmed which exterior and interior shots were captured there, so no specific episode guide is linked as a settled match.

The real place

From headquarters to redevelopment proposal

The Finchley Society describes the blue 1960s building as visible from Squires Lane and the Northern line. The Finchley Lakeside project site says Pentland moved out in 2024 and is working on the campus’s future with local consultation. The site's plans and access arrangements may change; an old screen or street image should not be treated as a promise that the buildings remain unchanged.

Visitor practicalities

How to see the area responsibly

  • Former campus: off Squires Lane, Finchley, London. The owner does not advertise a general public visitor entrance or Ludwig tour. Do not enter the grounds, gates or construction areas without permission.
  • Public viewpoints: The buildings have been visible from Squires Lane. The 2015 photograph shows them from Long Lane Pasture, a separate volunteer-run nature reserve; vegetation and redevelopment may now obscure the view. Visiting the pasture is not visiting the filming site.
  • Pasture entrance: The reserve gives its public access road between 280 Long Lane and 84 Rosemary Avenue, opposite the fire station. Follow its map and signs; do not use the adjacent private access road for parking.
  • Published pasture hours and cost: April–October daily 9am–7pm or dusk, weather and volunteers permitting; November–March contact volunteers. Entry is free, with donations welcomed. Check the live visitor page before travel.
  • Transport: Finchley Central on the Northern line is about 15 minutes’ walk from the pasture according to its visitor page. Check TfL’s live station details.
  • Paths and facilities: The pasture has a short hard-surfaced route suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, but other paths are grassy and can be wet. It has seating and no public toilets or café. Ask the volunteer group about your specific access needs.
  • Parking and conduct: The pasture lists on-street parking on Long Lane but prohibits parking in its access road. Keep dogs on leads, respect wildlife, and take only public-path photographs without disturbing residents or workers.
