Biography

Actor and writer across comedy, screen and stage

Ben Ashenden works as an actor, comedian and writer. He is one half of the comedy partnership The Pin with Alex Owen. In a 2020 joint interview, Ashenden recalled meeting Owen while making student comedy, building live shows at Edinburgh and developing their first commercial play. The interview is evidence for his account of the partnership, not for an unverified formal acting qualification.

The pair wrote The Comeback, which opened at the West End’s Noël Coward Theatre in December 2020. Its publisher credits both writers; Ashenden’s management CV records him as writer and performer. The CV also lists selected screen work including Bridget Jones’s Baby, Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans, Ghosts, Stath Lets Flats and Deep Cover. These examples show range rather than a complete filmography; CV project years should not be assumed to be first-release years.

His writing record on the management CV includes Deep Cover, Live at the Moth Club, Famalam and The Pin’s radio and stage work. Where the same title appears as an acting and writing credit, this profile keeps those roles distinct. B-Side Management

The Pin and his own words

The hhush voice profile identifies Ashenden and Owen as performers and writers of BBC Radio 4’s The Pin. In the 2020 interview, Ashenden explained how short sketches grew into a longer narrative about double acts and backstage life. This is a dated first-person account of his writing process, not a statement about the making of Ludwig.

Series 2 Episodes 1–6 — British Comedy Guide

BritBox identifies Ashenden as a Series 2 regular and calls the character DC Ethan Cole. British Comedy Guide lists the role in all six episodes. The agency CV instead says “DS Ethan Cole”; this rank discrepancy has not been resolved against the actual screen credits. Until then, the production announcement supplies the displayed rank, not a claim that the CV has been corrected.

Skills

Agency-listed capabilities

The B-Side CV lists comedy writing, improvisation, presenting and performance skills, along with accents, French, sports and other abilities. The hhush profile lists a London natural accent and London/RP voice options. These are agency descriptions, not skills independently tested by the Casebook; consult the live records for casting decisions.

Training

Early comedy route

Ashenden has described student comedy, Edinburgh appearances and learning through the partnership with Owen. The accessible management CV does not specify a formal acting-school qualification, so this page does not invent one. First-person interview

Recognition

Shortlisted, not winner

The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain lists The Pin by Ashenden and Owen on its 2017 Best Radio Comedy shortlist. The winner was John Finnemore’s Double Acts; this was a nomination, not a win for The Pin.

Representation and availability

Current professional routes

B-Side Management lists Ashenden and his current representative for management enquiries. hhush hosts his voice profile. The two listings may serve different work; check them directly before any booking. The Casebook is not a booking service.
