Biography

A stage-led career across screen and theatre

Amanda Lawrence is a British actor whose documented work spans touring theatre, the National Theatre, Broadway, film and television. In a 2009 interview she recalled wanting to make plays at school and said she went to Bretton Hall College after school. That is her own account of training; a graduation year and qualification have not been independently verified. WhatsOnStage interview

Her physically inventive stage work included playing Charles Hawtrey and numerous other characters in Jiggery Pokery in 2009. She was in Marianne Elliott’s Angels in America at the National Theatre and its 2018 Broadway transfer; Playbill records the Angel and other roles in both parts. The National Theatre later cast her as Miss Prism in Max Webster’s The Importance of Being Earnest, staged from November 2024 to January 2025. National Theatre casting announcement

On television, British Comedy Guide lists Dead Boss, The Change and Ludwig among selected credits. The National Theatre’s casting announcement also identifies her screen work in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. These are selected, source-backed milestones, not a complete filmography.

Performer’s voice

How she approaches the work

In her 2009 WhatsOnStage interview, Lawrence explained the research and role changes involved in Jiggery Pokery. In a 2018 TheaterMania conversation about Angels in America, she compared how London and New York audiences responded to the play. These first-person sources illuminate her stage practice; neither is presented as a current statement about Ludwig.

Original fan-art portrait

The header uses a clearly labelled, original editorial likeness illustration created for this independent fan archive. It is not an official image or production still. Agency photographs, press images and programme stills remain on their publishers’ sites unless reuse permission is documented.

Skills

CV detail still needed

Her multirole stage work is documented, but accents, languages, instruments, movement disciplines and other casting skills need an authorised current CV before they can be listed as professional claims.

Training

Bretton Hall, in her own account

Lawrence said in a 2009 interview that she went to Bretton Hall College after school. The course, award and dates require a separate record or current professional biography.

Awards and recognition

Production record, not award claim

Playbill documents her Broadway Angels in America roles. No individual award or nomination is asserted here without the relevant awarding body’s record.

Representation and availability

Current agent unconfirmed

A current representative could not be confirmed from the agency’s own public roster. The Casebook is not a booking service and does not publish private contact details. Historic third-party contact listings are not treated as current.
