Biography
Classical theatre to television detective
Sir David Suchet is a British stage and screen actor whose work spans classical theatre, film and television. LAMDA lists him among its alumni, and the Agatha Christie estate’s biography traces his move into the Royal Shakespeare Company before major screen roles. His long-running portrayal of Hercule Poirot is his best-known television work: Agatha Christie’s programme history records 70 adaptations across 13 series, ending in 2013.
The 2026 Ludwig Christmas-special announcement casts Suchet as a murder suspect, deliberately reversing the detective role familiar to viewers of Poirot. BritBox has not disclosed the suspect’s name or the full broadcast credit.

RSC, television and film
The Royal Shakespeare Company records Suchet as Hubert in its 1974 King John, and its Merchant of Venice history places him as Shylock in 1981. His agency credit list includes Robert Maxwell in Maxwell, Augustus Melmotte in The Way We Live Now, Jaggers in Great Expectations, Kaisa in His Dark Materials, and films including The Bank Job and American Assassin. These are representative credits, not a dated complete filmography.
The Christie estate notes his earlier role as Blott in Blott on the Landscape and says it led producer Brian Eastman to propose him for Poirot. The Artists Partnership profile is the live professional record and offers a CV download; its photographs are not reused here.
