Biography

Four decades of comedy, drama and theatre

Doon Mackichan is an actor, comedian and writer whose professional record crosses television sketch comedy, sitcom, stage and radio. Her current management biography places Smack the Pony, Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge, Toast of London and Two Doors Down among her notable television work. The agency’s dated CV also lists later appearances in Good Omens, Funny Woman and Dreaming Whilst Black. Those are selected, attributed credits rather than a complete filmography.

Her stage record begins well before those recent screen roles. The agency CV lists To Kill a Mockingbird at Birmingham Rep in 1987, Road and The Queen and I at the Royal Court in 1994, The Government Inspector at the Young Vic in 2011, and Twelfth Night at the National Theatre in 2017. The National Theatre archive independently records her as Feste in Twelfth Night. The CV also lists a 2026 National Theatre Summerfolk credit; the production’s dates and role should be confirmed from the theatre’s own programme before they are treated as a fully audited stage chronology.

For radio, the CV includes On the Hour, Knowing Me, Knowing You and later BBC Radio 4 acting and narration. Her breadth is part of the professional record, but the Casebook has not verified every individual transmission.

Writer’s voice

A first-person account of stereotypes

Mackichan’s memoir, My Lady Parts, is presented by publisher Canongate as her own examination of stereotypes and the roles women are offered in entertainment. This profile links the book as first-person context; it does not turn its personal account into unsourced claims about specific colleagues or productions.

Skills

Agency-listed capabilities

The B-Side CV lists accents and languages, singing, dance, piano, comedy, presenting, sport and other performance skills. These are a representative’s casting claims, not abilities independently tested by the Casebook; consult the live CV before relying on them.

Training

No school claim without a record

The accessible management biography and CV document a long stage career but do not name a formal drama-school course. This page does not infer one from early credits. Verified training information remains welcome.

Individual recognition

Winner and nominee, precisely labelled

BAFTA Scotland records Mackichan as its 2024 Actress – Television winner for Two Doors Down. BAFTA Television records a 2014 Female Performance in a Comedy nomination for Plebs. WhatsOnStage listed her for Supporting Actress in Jumpy. These are individual records; any awards or nominations for Smack the Pony as a programme are not silently credited to her as individual wins.

Representation and availability

Current management

B-Side Management lists Mackichan and her professional representation. Booking arrangements may change, so check the agency’s own page. The Casebook is not a booking service and does not publish private contact details.
