Architectural clues

How space becomes evidence

Method categories, not claims that every occurrence was deliberate.

Threshold

Doors, gates and controlled entrances test who could enter, leave or be seen. A locked or restricted boundary matters only when access is established.

Sightline

Windows, bridges, corners and camera positions limit what a witness or recording can actually show.

Route

Street width, crossings, corridors and river paths turn an apparent sequence into a testable movement problem.

Reasoning surface

Boards, tables, grids and room layout externalise order and contradiction without making the set decoration itself proof.

Reading ruleArchitecture is a clue only when the case uses it.The location register records a feature; the episode guide must still show that the feature changes what is possible.

Writing analysis

Recurring case architecture

Mark Brotherhood is the credited creator and writer across the published series-level record.

Structure

Weekly case + long mystery

A self-contained investigation advances beside the continuing James story without requiring both strands to resolve together.

Mechanism

Premise becomes puzzle method

Identity, time, route, movement, testimony or geometry gives each case a dominant way to organise evidence.

Pressure

Knowledge is uneven

John, Lucy, police colleagues and the audience often hold different parts of the same situation.

Method

Physical record challenges narrative

Rooms, intervals, objects and viewpoints test a plausible story rather than merely decorate it.

Attribution boundaryThese are Casebook observations of the credited scripts. They are not quotations from the writer and do not claim intention without an attributable interview.
